Victoria Beckham recently defended her ‘miserable’ persona, insisting that she is quite happy, thank you very much – but she doesn’t feel the need to “scream and shout about it”.
However now she’s done an about turn and put the blame at the door of the fashion industry.
“I think I only stopped smiling when I got into fashion” she tells the new issue of US Glamour . “Fashion stole my smile! I’ve created this person. And I’m not saying that’s not me, but I wouldn’t say that’s the whole me…. It’s an armour that goes up.”
Although the comment was said in jest, we’d like to argue that VB was practising her moody pout way before the new millennium, back in the Spice Girls days, when she’d sport leather minidresses and frown with a pointed finger at the camera.

The 38-year-old mum of four, who debuted her ready-to-wear line at New York Fashion Week back in 2008, has reaped both commercial and critical success in a short period and added handbags, sunglasses, denim and a second line, Victoria Victoria Beckham, to her empire.
Sacrificing her smile has proved to be a small price to pay for her new-found career: “I feel like fashion is where I belong” she explains, hinting that being on stage with her former pop band is not.
So we’ll be keeping out eyes glued to the Olympics Closing Ceremony on August 12 to see if she drops the pouty armour and flashes her elusive nashers for one final zig-a-zig-ah with her old band mates. Surely not?
